Platanias
is a little gem of a fishing village and miniature port in southeastern
Pelion 62 klm from Volos and 60-80 minutes by boat from Skiathos
and Skopelos of the Sporades Islands. While Mother Nature has endowed
it with soft rolling hills covered with olive groves and fruit orchards
as well as several lovely beaches [the most famous being Mikro,
a heavenly and much photographed sandy beach 15 minutes' walk from
the village], Man himself has enriched its surroundings with sights
of archaeological and religious interest that betoken the area's
long history and legend. From the point of view of infrastructure
development Platanias is in very good standing; it has sufficient
and adequate accommodation for rent, 3 mini-markets, a bakery, 3
cafes, bus connection with Volos and boat connection with Skiathos.
What's more, it still remains a lovely resort with a pristine aura.
It is not to be missed by holiday-makers of all ages who wish to
have quiet and relaxed vacations peppered slightly with a bit of
exploration and adventure.
